Heat Pump, Solar PV and Battery Installation near Exeter, Devon

At GreenGenUK, we’ve been proudly serving homeowners across Devon and Cornwall with low-carbon, energy-saving technologies since 2011. One of our recent projects was in Cheriton Bishop near Exeter, Devon brought together our full range of services: an Air Source Heat Pump, Solar PV, and Battery Storage system – all in one installation.
This complete home energy solution is already delivering significant savings and comfort for our customer, while helping to reduce their carbon footprint. If you’re exploring heat pump, solar and battery installations in Exeter, this case study is for you.
A Personalised Energy Upgrade – From Survey to System Design
This installation began when our Area Manager for Devon, Neil Rollinson, visited the homeowner following a recommendation from an existing GreenGenUK customer. After a full property survey and energy consultation, Neil created a comprehensive proposal tailored to the client’s home and lifestyle.
As always, we carried out a full room-by-room heat loss calculation and developed a 3D model of the property to ensure the system was designed accurately and efficiently. We understand that switching to renewable energy is a big decision, which is why we work hard to give our customers the clearest information possible from the very beginning.
Heating Upgrade: From Storage Heaters to a Modern Heat Pump
The property previously relied on outdated and inefficient night storage heaters. The new system we installed features:
- ✅ Mitsubishi Ecodan R290 6kW Air Source Heat Pump
- ✅ 250L Telford Tempest Unvented Hot Water Cylinder
- ✅ 8 x Stelrad Compact Radiators + 1 Towel Rail
With a total floor area of 81m² and a heat loss requirement of 5.5kW at -2°C external temperature, this specification ensures the entire home can be heated comfortably and efficiently.
Estimated heating and hot water demand: 13,000kWh per year
Projected running costs: Less than £1,000 annually
Annual saving vs previous system: Over £500
And thanks to the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) voucher, a large portion of the system cost was covered – making this transition even more affordable.
Adding Solar PV & Battery for Maximum Efficiency
To make the most of his new heat pump system and further reduce household electricity bills, the customer also opted for a Solar PV and Battery Storage system:
- ☀️ 12 x JA Solar 450W All Black Mono Modules (6 on east-facing roof, 6 on west-facing roof)
- ⚡ GivEnergy Gen3 Hybrid Inverter
- 🔋 9.5kWh GivEnergy Battery
This system is forecast to generate approximately 4,700kWh of clean solar energy annually, with nearly 90% of that energy used on-site, thanks to the hybrid inverter and battery storage combination.
Over a 25-year period, this system is expected to offset more than 20 tonnes of CO₂, while making a significant dent in rising energy costs.
