A GreenGenUK Update – what have we been up to?

We’ve been busy, but we’re here!

We know you’ve not heard a lot from us on the GreenGen blog in last the 12 months, and we’re sorry for that. We’ve been very busy, but we’re here!

Since we opened in 2011, GreenGenUK has grown to become one of the South West’s leading installers of renewable heating and power solutions. Through hard work, perseverance and our commitment to providing our customers with only the most environmentally and financially beneficial systems, we have grown year-on-year. And 2022 was our best year yet.

To give you an idea on how things have been going, below is a snapshot of our previous 12 months.

Air Source Heat Pumps

In the last year, GreenGen installed 38% more air source heat pumps than in the previous 12 year. This means more clean, green heating for homes throughout the South West and fewer oil and gas boilers!

Despite a change in subsidy from the retrospective Renewable Heat Incentive to the upfront £5,000 Boiler Upgrade Scheme (more information here), we’ve installed more heat pumps than ever. And with two years still to run on the Boiler Upgrade Scheme and legally-enforced targets still to reach on UK carbon emissions, there are no signs of the heat pump market slowing down.

Solar PV

Many homes have turned to solar in the past 12 months to protect themselves from rising energy prices. We installed 196% more solar systems than in 2021.

An astounding rise, but not one we can take all the credit for. As energy prices have soared, homes and businesses have turned to solar to keep their bills in check while replacing harmful, fossil fuel power with clean, renewable solar power.

Battery Storage

Over the past 12 months, GreenGen installed 347% more battery storage solutions than the year before. 347%.

Battery systems can be installed alongside an existing solar array or included as part of a new solar PV system. Opting for a battery solution alongside solar allows homes to store their solar energy so it can be used throughout the evening and night. This means greater self-consumption and minimises energy brought from the grid.

The result? Lowered bills and further reduced carbon emissions.

EV Chargers

I’m sure by now you’ve all seen more green number plates on the roads. More drivers are converting to an electric vehicle as costs come down and battery technology improves.

In 2022, we saw a 109% increase in the amount of EV charge points GreenGen installed. Switching to an electric vehicle has become more and more common in recent years. Opting for an electric vehicle is the ideal solution to rising and fluctuating petrol and diesel prices.

Homes with solar also have the added benefit that surplus solar energy can be used to charge an EV. If the sun is shining and the EV is plugged in, the car will effectively charge for free!

But that’s not all…

In the last 12 months, we’ve moved offices… TWICE.

Due to sustained, continuous and then rapid growth we’ve experienced here at GreenGen, we’ve now moved to an office with four times the space we had 12 months ago.

This has allowed us to expand our office team to provide better service to our customers and grow our workforce to increase the number of renewable heating and power installations we can provide. The extra space also allows us to hold more stock. As such, we are able to offer better value to our customers, better protect from stock shortages and provide a better overall service.

We’ll also be looking to highlight our green credentials by updating our new office to reduce our carbon footprint and running costs. Keep your eyes peeled for our case study on what we were able to achieve in our previous office in less than 12 months.

The next 12 months and beyond…

It all looks set for another busy year here at GreenGenUK. As homes and businesses are more committed than ever to finding friendlier, cleaner and lower cost ways to heat and power their properties, our team of experts will be on hand to offer impartial advise and system design.

But we promise you’ll hear more from us. Pop back and check out our ‘Renewable Blog’ and ‘Our Work’ pages where we’ll be posting updates of our latest projects, providing guidance on the systems we provide and other important information on how you can save energy and invest in renewables.

A BIG thanks

To all of our customers who have helped us grow to where we are today.

Working together, we have helped the South West start its transition to a renewable future. But there’s still lots of work to do, lots of boilers to replace and so much sun to harness!
