This 15kW Vaillant flexoTHERM ground source heat pump provided the Devon-based customer with a 5-year return on investment.

GreenGen’s Vaillant flexoTHERM ground source heat pump installation generates 100% of the property’s 21,109kWh space heating demand in an environmentally friendly manner. Switching to renewable heating reduced the customer’s energy bills and carbon footprint. In addition, this system is eligible for Renewable Heat Incentive payments.
Ground source heat pumps are the most energy-efficient renewable heating technology on the market.
System Specifications
This 15kW Vaillant flexoTHERM ground source heat pump installation consists of the following:
– A 15kW Vaillant flexoTHERM three-phase ground source heat pump
– A 300 litre twin-coil solar hot water cylinder
– A 500 litre buffer tank with solar coil
Benefits of this Ground Source Heat Pump installation
By choosing a ground source heat pump for the heating demand, the customer now benefits from the following:
Reduced running costs – GreenGenUK estimates this Ground source heat pump will reduce the customer’s heating costs to just £600 a year. More than this, this represents a total saving of £650 against an equivalent oil or LPG system, £500 over a mains gas boiler and £850 against a night storage system.
Government incentive – GreenGenUK are MCS certified to install ground source heat pumps. As such, this Vaillant ground source installation is eligible for Renewable Heat Incentive payments.
We calculate this 15kW heat pump will receive annual payments around £2900 from the Renewable Heat Incentive.
Carbon reduction – ground source heat pumps convert heat stored from the ground into usable heat incredibly efficiently. In effect, this heat pump produces around 5 units of heat for every unit of electricity consumed. As a result, this heat pump will reduce carbon emission by 5.3 tonnes per year.
10-year Financial Forecast
From the above figures, this system will provide the customer with:
– An annual return on investment of 15%
– A 10-year financial benefit of £23,640
– A 5-year payback period
– A 10-year carbon reduction of 53 tonnes
The Renewable Heat Incentive
Ground source heat pumps are among the UK’s most lucrative renewable investments, thanks to their support from the Renewable Heat Incentive. Installed and commissioned in September 2016, this system achieved a RHI tariff of 19.33p per kilowatt-hour.
Solar thermal, ground source heat pumps, air source heat pumps and biomass boilers are eligible. Paid quarterly and for 7 years, payments are deemed. Once registered with Ofgem, payments are guaranteed for the tariff’s life.
